From the time I arrived on the ward after the operation, I experienced what in my opinion was sub standard and degrading care.
The staff knew my problems and difficulties in holding a full bladder and was made to walk (with a drain tube/container) to the toilet with continuing disastrous results, making me feel humiliated especially with the "open door" policy for visitors. I was unable to walk unaided due to bad reaction to anaesthetic and therefore needed help, which could never get to me on time.
Consequently at night I lay in a wet bed because the staff could never get to me in time.
To solve this, it would have been so simple to give me a bedside commode with the curtains drawn a request that they did not acknowledge.
When I consistently asked for a bowl of water to wash with, I was ignored and therefore didn't wash for about three days.
I was afraid to eat and drink in case it aggravated my toilet dilemma and as a result I became sore, afraid and extremely anxious instead of being on the mend.
Overall my hospital experience has left me with anxiety problems and post operative stress symptoms, for which I am now being treated by local medical services, who by the way, were unaware that I had been admitted for an operation.
On Discharge from the hospital I had to wait six hours from the time I was told I could go to receiving my medication package.
