"Nothing"

About: Southmead Hospital

What I liked

Nothing

What could be improved

A little respect for the elderly and despite telling visitors about infection control how about the nursing staff practising what they preach.

Anything else?

My Mother was transferred from Frenchay to Sothmead after a stroke.

On my first visit ,3 hours after she had been admitted the nurses did not know she was there, and not on the patients board. Eventually they found her.

In the past week I have visited her to find dirty bedlinen left on the waste bin unbagged, a heavily soiled nightdress on the radiator in the window unbagged and a heavily soiled (with blood and urine) bed pad on top of her toiletries bad again unbagged. I know from a visitor that afternoon it was there when he arrived at 2.30pm and still there at 6.30 pm when I arrived. Also under the patients chair were a very heavily soiled pair of her knickers ( with faeces) and a vest also unbagged.

Her catheter had become blocked and caused her stomach to swell with a full bladder and until she complained of a bad stomach ache no-one had thought to check to see if it was functioning properly. My mother is 90 years old this treatment is disgusting.

My attempts to contact the Matron by telephone were unsuccessful as I got an call centre attitude and recorded voices and when I finally thought I had got through I found I was connected to the wrong ward who did not even know who their Matron was.

I will now be emailing her with my digust.
