"An ambulance was phoned for my husband"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

An ambulance was phoned for my husband. They examined him and advised him to go to hospital as his heart rate wasn't stable he decided not to go as he would not be able to get home.

If they didn't keep him in as we have no transport he was told the last time they would not pay to get him back home again as it was early hours in the morning there were no busses.

We face this problem often so they gave him a form to sign on the front it said when they arrived at door they heard me screaming at him to open the door, my dog was barking, I'm deaf and was I'll I am really not happy with them writing that as they didn't even see me and how Ill I was. I feel it's a disgrace.

Dear Kerso

Thank you for sharing your experience on Care Opinion. I am extremely sorry that you were unhappy with what was written on the form that the ambulance crew left with your husband.

Without knowing more about the case, it is difficult to comment on what was written. From my own experience, I find it useful to explain the content of any documentation that I am leaving with my patients. This reduces the likelihood of what has been written being misinterpreted and ensures the patient has understood any advice that I have given.

I would be more than happy to look into this in more detail and provide you with an explanation and perhaps provide feedback to the ambulance crew who attended your husband. Please can I ask you to contact me on 0131 314 0003 or at martinesposito@nhs.net

In the mean time, I do hope that your husband is recovering well.

Take care

Martin.
