3rd pregnancy after 2 previous losses (1st and 2nd pregnancy losses were at CRH).
I experienced some bleeding early in pregnancy and felt given my history and anxiety that my fears of a third loss in a row weren't taken seriously. I wasn't offered EPAU or any scans and was told to wait for my dating scan at 12 weeks. Thankfully my pregnancy has been relatively uneventful until I reached 34 weeks. I also experienced a change in community midwife that I didn't know about until my 32 week appointment. My waters broke almost 4 days ago now at 34+4 and I was admitted to M3.
The service from the Maternity staff has been phenomenal and I cannot fault it. However, I have been given conflicting information about my care from here on in. I was discharged after 24hrs but later went back in for monitoring because of high blood pressure and low iron but was discharged after an hr. Then I began with l9wer abdominal/Back and thigh pains. I was seen on labour ward and birth centre but again admitted to M3 as I was not in labour. I spent 12hrs on the ward this time and then discharged once tightening had settled. I am still losing waters almost 4 days after they originally broke and this is where the conflicting info comes in. Consultant Dr told me to go home and they would either 'see me in labour ward or at my 36 week Scan (which meant not being seen for 8 days after my waters broke), then a 2nd Dr advised me 'to hang on until 37 weeks then baby has a better chance (not sure how i stop my baby arriving).
I was told by a midwife that the wait and see procedure is that I would be monitored twice weekly until baby arrives, given antibiotics/iron tablets/5mg folic acid daily and monitor myself at home for signs of infection.
I cannot commend the staff enough for their transparency/keeping me updated and everytime I have concerns i am dealt with glaringly and compassionately. Nothing is too much trouble. However, my experience with the main reception has been slightly different. Most of my appointments have been delayed. I understand there are emergencies but to be kept waiting up to 2hrs after my appointment time before being informed there is a delay is not acceptable. Especially as I work full time. At most of my appointments I have seen multiple staff and had to repeat the same info several times at one appointment. It maybe advisable to tell people specifically which staff they are seeing prior to their appointments. I even got called back from the car after my glucose tolerance test to be seen by the dietician when I'd just been sat waiting for 2hrs between blood tests. Surely a more efficient use of time would be to see them during the 2hr gap? Staff are lovely, courteous, friendly and helpful throughout and despite my comments above I would highly recommend BRI.
