"You are just a burden here and will be patronised."

When I arrived the kind and smiling night staff were on shift still.

They soon handed my care over to the day staff.

While they were handing over I had extremely strong pains.

They informed me that my care would be managed by a final year student midwife and over seen by a midwife.

My labour was very fast and fierce just as my labour with my previous child had been.

I felt the need to push.

I screamed out in pain only to be chastised like a small child from the student midwife, who told me not to scream like that.

I wanted gas & air and to give birth in the pool but i had no pain management at that time.

Even in the last stage of labour I felt embarrassed to be spoken to like that.

No one should be told off when they are vulnerable and in so much pain.

I gave birth to my daughter soon afterwards.

I required stitches that were done by the student midwife.

During my stitches the midwife and student talked to each other about how one had a dentist appointment and they thought that tooth ache was worse than labour.

I found that this was in very poor taste since I had just gone through the pains of labour and birth with just gas and air.

I found my labour and birth was extremely painful and personally I do not find tooth ache a comparable type of pain.

I found the stitches and removal of the placenta a horrible experience also and to be made to feel like a wimp straight after birth while still undergoing the aftermath made me feel absolutely terrible.

It also belittled all of the pain that I went through in front of my husband who would then not help me when I arrived home.

In his words, he didn’t think I needed it as even the nurses had said it wasn’t even as bad as toothache.

I felt like when I tried to engage the midwives in conversation that I wasn’t worth talking to. They didn't even say my baby was cute etc. They seemed to forget about me as soon as the baby was born and the checks on the baby done. I felt like an inconvenience.

The student midwife even came in the shower room and pulled an unhappy face at the blood I had lost in the shower area while washing, so much so, that I tried to clean it up while I was still wet and half naked but they shooed me away with a frown.

I felt very faint and dizzy after the birth and kept nearly falling over.

When I told them I was dizzy they said nothing in reply, just gave me a look of what do you want me to .

They must have been full, I got moved into a different room.

I kept being told that I could leave soon.

I wanted more time before being pressured out.

My initial house visit was done by the same midwife and student midwife that were at the birth and I felt forced to mark the review card as great in front of them.

I am a 31 year old mother of 3 I don’t expect to be spoken to like I was during labour and had I not have been in extreme pain and in a situation where I felt forced to be compliant or risk getting even more poor treatment I would have spoken up but felt unable.
