The only complaint I have are with the a and e receptionists who I found to be arrogant and dismissive. I was suffering severe blood loss and clotting, but not haemorrhaging. When the symptoms started I rang the nhs 111 service who booked me an appointment at the out of hours service located on the hospital grounds. I was told should my symptoms worsen to go straight to a and e. They gradually worsened throughout the day so I went to the emergency department. The receptionists here told me I needed to keep my appointment with the out of hours service and refused to see me at a and e. At this point I am bleeding through a dressing gown and pyjamas! I made my way to the other side of the hospital (no wheelchair was offered). Upon walking into the out of hours surgery, the doctor took one look and said I should never have been turned away from a and e as I was bleeding to the point a transfusion was a possibility. The doctor was very very angry at the receptionists and made their feelings very clear to them. I was then wheeled back to a and e and seen straight away by another doctor and the gynaecologist. I am very pleased with the care given by the professionals at the George Eliot but feel the receptionists need to remember their relatively lowly position in the department.
