"Care at Wishaw Hospital"

About: University Hospital Wishaw

(as the patient),

I went into Wishaw in early June after I couldnt get out of a chair. I suffer from myasthenia gravis which makes mobility difficult. A bedsore developed after a floor stand fell on me and I bumped against a plastic stud. This bedsore was not noticed for a long time and I was discharged still with it really painful. It is still not healed and is causing me considerable discomfort even now.

I feel that the bedsore got no attention, my condition means that I am supposed to keep on my feet. One woman did appear and tried to treat it with a heel cup but there was no proper examination.

I feel that if treated straightaway I wouldnt have it now. I feel I should have had more physio than just one visit. I was in for around 2 weeks.

Dear Roundtree,

I'm sorry to hear of your injury during your time as an inpatient in Wishaw General Hospital. We are committed to preventing "bedsores" and I'd like to take this opportunity to apologise if you developed one during your time in hospital. If it is still causing you problems and you have returned home I would urge you to contact your GP or Health Centre to get this checked.

I'm also concerned that you feel you didn't get enough physiotherapy when in hospital.

I'd be grateful if you could contact Yvonne Ross in Patient Affairs at Wishaw General to provide her with your details so that my nursing and physiotherapy colleagues can review your case.

You can contact Yvonne by e-mail Yvonne.ross@Lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk or on Tel No: 01698 366558.

Kind regards

Rick
