"Treatment post suicide attempt. Diag: Acute..."

I required care and treatment after attempting (and fortunately failing) to take my own life.

This is the result of spending time as a medical practitioner in the military and NHS.

I found that the staff - nursing staff and especially the OT staff were excellent, and they got me safely through the most difficult part of my life so far, without incident.

I was in an acute male inpatient ward.

I myself have worked on an acute psychiatric ward.

The ward was a challenging and tense place to work, as there were some very unstable and potentially dangerous patients (to themselves or others) on the ward.

From what I saw though, I think that the staff, with the resources that they had, did extremely well.

It was also very easy to tell that they did truly care for the patients that were in their clinical area.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about the value of your acute episode of care and of our staff that helped overcome the mental health difficulties and distress you suffered last year. Our staff do all they can to help make an inpatient stay with us as therapeutic as possible. We do appreciate that this can be challenging at times due to the acuity of illness in the patients who require inpatient treatment, and we do all we can to make patients feel as safe as possible.
