"Terrible MS care"

About: Royal Preston Hospital / Neurology

Unfortunately 12 months ago my wife was diagnosed with MS. After being diagnosed we were told an MS nurse would contact us promptly to discuss treatment options. Unfortunately this didn't happen. My wifes condition deteriorated vey quickly and she couldn't get out of bed. I phoned the MS nurse answers machine and left messages literally everyday. The only people who returned my calls were Pals. After approximately 4 weeks of trying to get help I'd had enough and phoned Salford hospital neurology department. My wifes care was transferred and we got see a consultant the following week. Since then she has started a drug which as far I know isn't even available at Preston called lemtrada. She also has an MS nurse who answers the phone. Our experience of MS treatment at Preston was terrible and thank God we changed hospital

This is extremely disappointing to read and we can only imagine yours and your wife's frustation and worry at the lack of contact.

There have been significant pressures in the Neurology service but this does not excuse such poor levels of communication.

Thank you for your feedback.
