I cannot thank the staff within the maternity unit enough.
After a fall 5 days before my due date (prior to which had been a low risk, uncomplicated pregnancy) I landed straight onto my coccyx. The following day I had reduced movements and so was admitted to Andu for monitoring. Thankfully baby was ok, and i was brought back for daily monitoring. however one of my main concerns was managing my positioning during Labour with increasing pain from my coccyx. I discussed my situation with a very reassuring registrar who assured me that they would induce me and get an aneasthetist to review me prior. On induction day, I was admitted to m2, the staff there were absolutely incredible. The midwife who admitted me was extremely knowledgeable, open and honest and got the registrar to review me promptly. After a joint discussion it was decided to induce me and manage my pain accordingly. 24 hours later I started contracting regularly and so was transferred to the delivery suite. The midwife who took over my care was fantastic, and Labour started relatively uncomplicated. At shift change I was introduced to the midwife on nights who again I cannot fault. After examination, they realised the baby was face presentation and heart rate decelerating on contractions, and promptly got a doctor to review me. Throughout my time when i felt extremely anxious and vulnerable, the doctor was calm and very reassuring, and it was mentioned about a possible section. After no improvements I was transferred promptly to theatre for a cat 1 c-section.
The theatre team were fantastic, explained everything thorougly, and My daughter Rose was born within 20 minutes of being told I needed the section. I cannot thank the team at Bolton enough, from initial assessment to my daughter arriving safely into the world, I'll be eternally grateful. As a nurse, I undestand the immense pressures on the NHS, but the team worked tirelessly to provide excellent patient based care. Thankyou.
"A little thankyou..."
