"I'm at my wits end."

About: Victoria Infirmary / Rheumatology

(as the patient),

I have had joint, bone and muscle pain in my back legs actually everything from the waist down now for some years I got bloods taken back in March and it showed I have an abnormality in the connective tissue in my joints my doctor thinks it could be rheumatoid arthritis and referred me to the new Victoria rheumatology department .

I'm still waiting to be seen. My symptoms have got worse and I have been back at the doctors several times and get a different pill each time I go. Nothing is working now and I am off work and struggling to take care of my young daughter's. I'm very upset feel as if I have been left to get on with it on my own. Which I can't anymore I have tried all different herbal remedies and creams and nothing eases it. I'm at my wits end.

Dear Angry daughter 1

Thank you for taking the time to post on Care Opinion.

I am sorry to read about what you have been experiencing whilst waiting for your Rheumatology appointment.

I have already shared your post with the General Manager for Rheumatology and they would like to look into this further for you. So that we can do that for you, could you please email me at Nicole.McInally@ggc.scot.nhs.uk with your name, date of birth, CHI number (not essential) and quoting the reference 396359?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards

Nicole

Dear Angry Daughter 1

Unfortunately we have experienced a significant increase in the waiting times for Rheumatology appointments. This is for a number of reasons, including sick leave, staff vacancies and an increase in the number of patients being referred.

We are trying to reduce the waiting times by having clinics on a Saturday and Sunday.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Kind Regards

Cath McFarlane – General Manager

I apologise also I'm just off the phone to the booking office and have been told it will be at least till the end off December beforeI'm offered an appointment. I can't stay off my work this long so will have to go back to work hardly being able to walk my feet and ankles are so swollen. Actually my hands are swelling now as well as my legs the veins on my legs are stinging and I've been advised to rub ibuprofen gel on them? Honestly, this can't go on.
