"Felt listened to"

About: York Hospital

My son suffered a seizure one New Year's Eve aged 12. Totally out of the blue. We're a while in a and e but then he was in no immediate danger and would expect those in need to be seen first anyway.

He suffered from absence seizures almost continuously for three months. During that time I kept a diary. He was diagnosed with epilepsy within three days and prescribed medication which didn't work. However because the paediatric doctor listed to me and checked my diary they immediately changed the meds and my son stopped having seizures within 24 hours. Fit free for five years and driving and living a full life.

Very impressed.

The only niggle I have is that once he left paediatrics there has been to follow up checks.... but then again the NHS is fully stretched and he has no need as yet. Thank you york for being vervefficient during a worrying time!

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

I am so pleased to hear about your experience within our Child Health service at York Hospital.

It's great to know that your diary helped our staff to diagnose and treat your son appropriately and that he has been fit free for the past five years. What a fantastic outcome.

Wishing your son the best
