Please can the Sussex Eye Hospital lead sessions on how to manage patients within the NHS! They are wonderful. I came away informed and with a plan of action, and so considerably more relaxed than when I went.
I was seen very promptly despite turning up on a Saturday afternoon, when it turns out there is no normal Eye Hospital A and E service. Two ophthalmic nurses examined my eye thoroughly and explained in detail what the likely problem was and how to resolve it, and what to do if I couldn't resolve it on my own.
The ophthalmic nurses were both thorough, friendly and kind. I came away feeling very reassured and as though I had been no trouble, despite my turning up out of hours.
I really value having been talked to with knowledge and in detail - it gives you a sense of control and you feel in partnership with the professionals. I do not always find the same in other parts of the NHS I have come into contact with - I usually come away from the GP surgery feeling more distressed than when I arrive by being over-rushed and with my condition/symptoms under-unexplained, and a sense of being annoying if I ask for more information. At the Eye Hospital however I felt they really knew their stuff and were very happy to give me as much information as I wanted and needed, with friendliness and warmth. I was treated with care and respect. Thank you.
"Wonderful, thank you."
