"Staff appear to be medically good. They..."

About: Royal Preston Hospital

What I liked

Staff appear to be medically good. They work well as a team.

Hospital is clean.

What could be improved

In all honesty I have not been completely happy with any of the care I have received the Sharoe Green Unit. While the staff are efficent and clearly good at the clinical side of their jobs, their people skills are poor. I have not visited the unit without being snapped at and the Early Pregnancy Unit were awful when I lost my first baby, as they showed no compassion.

All this makes me extremely nervous about asking questions and even arranging and attending appointments. I was terrified about giving birth anyway but their uncaring attitude magnifies this.

Anything else?

I attended the hospital with my sister, as she had a Gynaecology appointment. We both found her consultant to be rude and almost aggressive, leaving my sister in particular feeling that she had no say in how her treatment would progress. In the end a very similar course of action was taken to what had been prescribed to her previously, which had not helped her condition at all.

On the way out I asked the consultant a question about a symptom I was experiencing during my pregnancy. I thought it was nice that they answered my question because I was the visitor and not the patient . They asked me if I had had the scan and if it were going well, to which I confirmed that it was but I was upset at what happened next;

They then said, "You're very short! What size are your feet?" To which they and two nurses just laughed! They didn't quantify this with a response. I felt as if I were back in the playground at school being bullied! I can't believe professionals would behave like this. At half an inch under five foot, I am short but no other midwife of doctor had humiliated me in this way, or even mentioned it as an issue influencing my pregnancy.
