I suffered an eye injury at home and was able to have it seen by my GP. I was referred to the RPI Emergency Department because the GP was concerned that I still felt a scratch when I blinked.
I checked into the Emergency Department reception and was seen by someone in the eye examination room within less than 2 hours.
I'm really glad that I went to the hospital, because they were able to remove two small metal foreign objects from my eye and they could see I had a minor corneal abrasion, made worse by blinking. In hindsight (no pun intended) I should have gone straight to A&E at the time of the accident. I'm now just taking some antibiotic eye drops and the eye is feeling much better. I still have some visual acuity issues in the evening, but I'm almost back to normal.
Thanks very much to both the GP and the A&E department. I didn't realize how serious it could be and I'm glad I was referred even though I wasn't that worried about it. My eyesight is very important to me, not least because I'm a computer graphics engineer and good visual acuity is vital for some of the work I do.
