The "Hear Here" Project was part of Nugent Care for 15 years until it was decided that funding was no longer available after May 2017.
"Hear Here" was a small team of 4 supporting people with an acquired hearing loss, The team provided free lipreading classes, sensory equipment loan scheme, home visiting, chair based exercise classes, advice on hearing loss and signposting to other services as well as social activities.
Hearing loss is an invisible disability and causes isolation and lack of confidence.
The lipreading classes in particular provided a support group for people with similar problems, created a support mechanism, friendships and confidence by improving lipreading skills.
There are now no lipreading classes in Merseyside (the nearest ones are Preston).
