I had my beautiful baby girl at the QEQM at the end of July this year. I had wanted a pool birth and was very lucky and very pleased to get a fantastic large, airy, bright and relaxing pool room on the MLU. My designated midwife was so fantastic, and observed and cared for me during the contractions and just let me do my thing, without too much interference and disruption- which is what I wanted. The midwife guided me through what to do and when and gave me the confidence I needed at times to get through the pain. The midwife was so lovely to both me and my husband. Towards the end of the labour, a second midwife joined us as the baby was back to back and the pushing was taking longer than it should and I needed some help. The second midwife was equally lovely and professional. I had to get out the pool onto the bed for the last bit, and had to have some help to get the baby out. A nurse joined at this point and all three members of staff made sure my baby arrived safely into the world. I cant thank them all enough- its an overwhelming experience I will never forget. The three members of staff helped me stay calm and not be scared when I then had complications with the placenta after the birth and was taken for surgery. I heard off another midwife that my first midwife actually stayed a few hours after their shift ended to make sure I was ok and not to leave me when the difficulties started. Its very clear that the hospitals and staff are stretched to the max and I know they are all overworked and underpaid for the miracles they perform- but all I can say is that the care and kindness we received off every member of staff we came in contact with was nothing but exceptional and I think they are all doing a superb job with the resources they have and should get more praise for what they do. THANK YOU to all the staff that looked after me and Bay xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
