"Orthopaedic outpatients"

About: Trafford General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

Having recently undergone surgery at Trafford General on a fractured wrist I attended outpatients earlier today. I was reviewed by a senior physiotherapist. Up to now I have received excellent care from all the staff but I found today the physiotherapist was somewhat condescending and I felt like they weren't listening to me as I described my ongoing and somewhat slow recovery. At one point a surgical registrar entered the consultation room and I received conflicting advice from both of them about my physiotherapy which was unhelpful. I left the consultation not knowing what advice was pertinent and with no clear treatment plan to aid my recovery.

A very disappointing experience.

In response to your feedback posted on NHS choices on 11th September 2017, we are very sorry to learn that your experience in the outpatient fracture clinic was not as positive as we would hope. It is important to us that comments are acted upon as they give us the opportunity to make improvements whenever possible and appropriate to do so.

We have looked into your concerns and raised them with the physiotherapy staff. This allows us to reflect on your experience so that other patients do not experience the same issues that you did. I can reassure you that as a department we rarely receive complaints regarding staff attitude to patient care and I thank you for bringing this to our attention.

It is difficult to respond to all the posts on NHS choices in a full way often due to a lack of detailed information, therefore if you would like to discuss this in more detail, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by emailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk quoting reference number PO17/0164.
