I attended in November 2015 and a Med history taken by a junior doctor. I never got to see my consultant, however a discussion took place between the junior and the consultant. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia which my GP had suspected and I awaited conformation from them. It took 6 weeks and numerous phone calls that were never answered so you have to leave a message before the letter arrived for my employer. The diagnosis on the letter said mechanical pain? I queried this as this made me look dishonest to my employer and an extremely rude nurse advised me this was the initial diagnosis and that I should put a complaint in writing. I complained and asked for this to be looked into, a meeting took place at Pontefract without me again and they agreed on the diagnosis???? this was extremely stressful and my anxiety was the worst I had ever experienced. My GP referred me to Barnsley Hospital for a second opinion and in 10 mins a wonderful consultant diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia!!! I was relieved to have this in writing and my employer withdrew what was about to become a disciplinary. Do not ever attend this department - they do not listen to concerns they never answer their phones and consultants sit in rooms and make clinical decisions on patients without seeing them? - on a better note the hydrotherapy team are fantastic and the pain management is wonderful but the receptionists at the rehabilitation dept don't pass on messages so you get struck off for a DNA which adds to frustration.
