"diagnosed then retracted"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital / Rheumatology

I attended in November 2015 and a Med history taken by a junior doctor. I never got to see my consultant, however a discussion took place between the junior and the consultant. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia which my GP had suspected and I awaited conformation from them. It took 6 weeks and numerous phone calls that were never answered so you have to leave a message before the letter arrived for my employer. The diagnosis on the letter said mechanical pain? I queried this as this made me look dishonest to my employer and an extremely rude nurse advised me this was the initial diagnosis and that I should put a complaint in writing. I complained and asked for this to be looked into, a meeting took place at Pontefract without me again and they agreed on the diagnosis???? this was extremely stressful and my anxiety was the worst I had ever experienced. My GP referred me to Barnsley Hospital for a second opinion and in 10 mins a wonderful consultant diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia!!! I was relieved to have this in writing and my employer withdrew what was about to become a disciplinary. Do not ever attend this department - they do not listen to concerns they never answer their phones and consultants sit in rooms and make clinical decisions on patients without seeing them? - on a better note the hydrotherapy team are fantastic and the pain management is wonderful but the receptionists at the rehabilitation dept don't pass on messages so you get struck off for a DNA which adds to frustration.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments on NHS Choices.

It is clear, from your posting, that you have been left feeling frustrated with our services and for that, I am very sorry.

This is not the experience would want for our patients however, it is encouraging to hear that you had a positive experience with the Hydrotherapy team and pain management.

I note that you have made a complaint to the Trust regarding your experience but wondered if you wanted to talk through your concerns with our PALS Team.

They can be contacted on 01924 542972 or alternatively, you can email them on pals@midyorks.nhs.uk.

Thank you again and I wish you well for the future.

Kind regards

Clare Blackburn
