Appointments on the gynaecology (consultants, nurses, ultrasound) side were outstanding, and my thanks to all. An appointment at the uro-gynae clinic could not have been more different.
The consultant arrived 2 hours late, and a staff member was frustrated at having to apologise on the consultant's behalf without any information as to why. They finally admitted that this was a frequent occurrence, not an understandable delay with a patient on emergency, an unlucky delay on public transport etc. They made no apology for the delay. Each of the 5 women before me emerged speedily with the same diagnosis, the same prescription and visibly upset with how they had been treated, several warning us of an abrupt and disinterested manner in the consultation.
I was the last patient to be seen. The consultant conducted part of my consultation standing up, with their hand holding the consultation room open, saying that they didn't want to answer questions because they were late for their private clinic. It was a shocking experience, and utterly different from the outstanding care received elsewhere in this department, and from the nurse on duty during the uro-gynae appointment. I hope this sad tale will prompt management action to change the situation.
"Awful appointment at the uro-gynae clinic"
