"They are the most wonderful people - helpful, knowledgeable and supportive"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Orthopaedics

(as a service user),

I was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis about 15 years ago. I'd seen various neurologists in Oxford and Glasgow but I was told nothing could be done and that I would have to manage the condition as best I could.

After many years of feeling abandoned and left to my own devices a GP referred me to the Rehabilitation Service in Dumfries. They are the most wonderful people - helpful, knowledgeable and supportive.

I have an annual health review when I see the OT, Physio and Nurse and get to talk about anything that is worrying or concerning me. But in-between times they are always at the end of the phone; I can go see them or they can visit me at home. When I got into a state about renewing my Blue Badge Rachel calmed me down and was there for me till we sorted it out. Without these wonderful people I really don't know how I would have coped.

Thank you Alwar, your positive feedback on your community rehab experience has been shared with the team, and they are delighted to know that you find the service so responsive.

I think often we overlook the fact that ' rehabilitation' when living with a life-long and life-changing condition is a process that cannot be time limited.

Instead, its determined by what the person living with the diagnosis needs, and when they need it.

Thanks again:-)
