"Hunger and thirst"

About: The Royal London Hospital / Neurology

(as a service user),

I asked for food and drink all day and promised that somebody will get some by everybody I asked. In the entire day I got 1 dried up sandwich and 2 glasses of water. My voice was hoarse, my throat was sore and my tongue was dry and swollen. My belly was beginning to cramp and I was unable to sleep.

I considered discharging myself just to get a cup of tea. I felt very unwell now. I was in a bit of discomfort when I came in for an x Ray and some other tests. It's a horrible feeling. I feel like the staff couldn't care less about me. I had already explained that this is my third day without food due to the DWP cutting my benefits so I'm used to going hungry and was promised food supplements and didn't get them I anticipated getting something, anything.  Hunger really hurts, I got a headache and i was very angry.

I had also asked repeatedly to see a social worker to help me arrange some home care. In my opinion, this was also ignored. As I left I was asked to fill in a questionnaire with a pen that did not work. I was told that I could not have patient transport home and I nearly Collapsed on the way to the lift and was assisted by strangers.

When I got home a friend was waiting to help me into bed and we discovered my canula was still in. I don't know what to do about this.

I am no stranger to Hospitals. I have never experienced neglect like this and spent the last night almost screaming with pain having asked for pain relief and like everything else was ignored. I do not know if this  was deliberate but during my stay I had 2 cups of tea which were taken away after a few minutes.  Also there was no bedside table ,so I was expected to balance the child size portions of food on my bloated and painful abdomen. Inevitably I ended up with an entire bowl of soup all over me which was thankfully cold.

I recently stayed in ward 13 e or f. I can't be sure which. My treatment there was completely different and not only was I looked after but the staff often came in for a chat and to hear my stories. I have no complaints about the care i received from the doctors. But even the instructions they gave I feel the nursing Staff ignored.
