When the bereavement midwife was available care was good and things were really well explained to me, especially regarding my baby's Autopsy and what would happen next

What could be improved

When the bereavement midwife was available care was good and things were really well explained to me, especially regarding my baby's Autopsy and what would happen next. Disliked - The bereavement maternity ward was not available due to lack of staff. This meant I had to deliver my stillborn baby on a ward with newborn babies in earshot the whole time I was there. I found this very distressing. There was very little assistance in labour and I had a very painful induction with mostly only gas and air. After my baby was born I had a retained placenta which I ended up delivering myself as no staff were available to help me. As someone who had previous PPH this was a very scary experience and I felt let down by the care

Anything else?

The staff were great but there were just not enough of them to care for me properly. It is beyond belief to have a special bereavement maternity suite but to not actually have enough staff so patients in need can use it! This was a very distressing time made worse by the situation.
