"We could always count on a smile even in the middle of the night"

About: York Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

After 96 hours of contractions I gave a birth to a baby boy in York teaching hospital. I would like to thank everyone involved in this difficult delivery for their kindness and amazing job they do every day.

To start I would like to say big thank you to my lovely community midwives Julie and Fiona for their support, knowledge and advise during my whole pregnancy and after giving birth. Thanks to you I was reassured everything was going as good as it should and I felt supported in the difficult early days.

I also want to thank all the staff from Triage ward for their assistance with my migraines and every other issues I had during my pregnancy- for your advise, patience and understanding.

I would like to thank all midwives from G3 ward for support during early labour and with easing my pain when I taught I can't deal with it any longer.

Thank you very very much to Irene, Liberty and Pauline- midwives from the Labour ward who looked after me through the active labour day and made me feel relaxed and reassured that I can make it! As well as another midwife ( possibly Sarah- I'm sorry I'm not sure about your name) who took over in the evening, stayed with me in the theatre till the baby was born and made me an amazing toast afterwards: ). I really appreciate lots of care, understanding and kindness especially when I was in pain and stress and couldn't think straight any more. Thanks to you all I have not a single one bad memory from this special day.

I want to say big thank you to the doctor  Ghosh who managed to deliver my baby with tongues. Your professionalism and experience saved me undergoing c section surgery. Also big thank you to the anesthesiologist for his patience and convincing me that spinal is not that bad and all helping staff who looked after my and baby's wellbeing during the procedure. Me and my husband counted at least 10 doctors, nurses and helping personel in the theatre, all of you looking after me and Alex. We would like to thank you all unfortunately we can only remember a few names- Sue, Lisa, Chloe and all the people mentioned earlier.

Lastly we would like to thank all the amazing midwives from G2 ward who looked after us after the delivery. We could always count on your good word and smile even in the middle of the night. Your advise was always very usefull and care made me ( and I'm sure all other new mums and dads) feel safe in this new circumstances. Again we can only remember a couple of names- Frankie and Sam; however all of you are stars. Thank you, you will never be forgotten.

Thank you so much for sharing these kind words. We will make sure your thanks are passed on to the team who cared for you and your baby. It is incredibly special to hear that you came through your long labour feeling safe and cared for and with positive memories.

Wishing you and your family all the very best for the future.
