"Access to Ward A4"

About: Rotherham Hospital / General medicine

The electronic door to allow access to ward A4 has not worked for over a week. Visitors to the ward have to wait for long periods of time to gain access and also on leaving the ward. Access is gained by ward staff seeing visitors waiting or just ignoring them the majority of the time ..............and is having an adverse effect on patient care. It is also causing more stress and anxiety for relatives with seriously ill family members.

What I cannot believe most of all is that the electronic door is by the offices of the Matron, Service Manager and Clinical Director for Integrated Medicine and after a week it it obvious that they have not even noticed or if they do know about the issue have been very neglectfull in getting the issue fixed.

Not impressed.

Dear Anonymous

I was sorry to learn of your experience in relation to the electronic doors on entering Ward A4 recently. Please be assured this is not what we would expect any of our patients or family members to encounter and as such I have made the Matron aware of your concerns. Matron has explained that the doors are actually working and it was the release buzzer used by staff to allow patient and visitor access that has not been malfunctioning. I understand that the fault has been reported by the Head of Nursing for Integrated Medicine in the hope that the issue can be resolved in a timely manner. If you would to discuss your experience in more detail please contact the Patient Experience Team on 01709 424461 in the first instance.

Best wishes
