"Dicnostic process lung disease"

About: Basildon University Hospital

My husband was refered to the respiratory clinic to see a consultant suspected lung cancer/ surcoidosis..

the receptionist at outpatient changed his appointment without telling him.

Then we saw the consultant who said he would need a broncosopy/ ebus. The consultant said they only carry them out once a week on a Friday , we asked if it could be that week, they said no list is full but I will put you on the list for next Friday.

We then recieved a call on Tuesday telling us that the list was full that week so we were booked in for the following week. We were very distressed as obviously we were looking at he may have lung cancer we just wanted a diagnosis, to be told your going to have one one week two weeks or three is bad enough but to make people wait any length of time is so stressful.

Anyway we turned up for the procedure on the third week 7.30 in the morning. My husband was third on the list.

eleven o'clock the consultant came and told us That one of the cameras was broken and the other one had to be cleaned after each procedure so he may not be going for the procedure.

an hour later the consultant returned and told us the washer that cleans the camera had broken down so he was being sent home.

The consultant said they could not guarantee that they could do it the week after so asked us to wait until 3 weeks time. We refused and said we want to be referred to another hospital.

We are totally discussed with the lack of communication and the lack of empathy for my husband at such a worrying time.

The hospital goes on about the six c's well there was no c's in my husbands case all we got was six e's excusses , excuses excuses.

We have now contacted our gp to be referred to another hospital for any future treatment.
