"urethra/bladder camera investigation"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

I had the flexible camera procedure  with the application just a local anaesthetic/lubricant. The treatment was less unpleasant than I had expected, with only one slight "wince", and was over quite quickly, less than a minute I thought.

Just an observation, but it seemed to me that all the men there had been booked in at 2 o'clock with the consequence that most of us were sitting there in a state of trepidation for some considerable time, in my case 2hrs 40 minutes, . Could not a staggered appointment system be used to avoid the build-up of nervous tension?

With regard to the after effects, I experienced the expected stinging pain in the end of my penis over the evening, especially when urinating. After my second wee at about 9 o'clock I got some Savlon antiseptic cream and worked a little into the "eye". Problem solved within seconds and no discomfort since!

Good Morning Hubert,

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback following your recent visit to the Urology Unit. I am pleased to hear that the procedure was not as unpleasant as you had expected.

I have had a discussion with the Urology Unit this morning regarding the appointment times and wait within the department. They have informed me that all of the patients do have an appointment time and when they arrive to the Unit they are checked in on the system. They stated that there can be a potential wait of up to 3 hours depending upon any urgent matters that may arise during the course of the day for example if the doctors are required in theatre. The Urology Unit apologise greatly that you had a lengthy wait and have explained that there are discussions to be had to reduce the build up of nervous tension when there is a delay in the department.

Thank you for the treatment suggestion with regards to the after effects you experienced. I have discussed these with the Urology Unit should any patient encounter this in the future.

I hope that you are recovering well and thank you again for taking the time to feedback. It is greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards
