"Dining Room Crosshouse Hospital"

About: Crosshouse Hospital

(as a relative),

I have visited many relatives over the years at Crosshouse hospital and always use the canteen as the food has always been of good quality.

My comment however, is that I find it mind boggling that in 2017 you cannot use your card to pay for your meal, snacks and drinks in the canteen! I am aware that there is a card machine within the hospital but this was not working at the time of my most recent visit leaving me with no option but to not eat!

In my opinion, this must create unnecessary problems for relatives/patients/staff who want to spend a little time or their lunch break away from the stress of whatever is happening on the ward.

Implementing card machines would make dining in the canteen a much more pleasant experience and would surely generate more custom. It would even cut queues as most cards are contactless and you can pay in seconds.

You can use your card in some of the vending machines within Crosshouse Hospital to buy chocolate or crisps but can't use it to buy a healthy snack from the canteen. Aren't these establishments supposed to promote health?

Just my thoughts

Canteen Customer.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Canteen Customer,

I had a chat with Janice, Head of Clinical Support Services for East, and this is what she would ole to reply to your post-

‘thank you for your comment and we fully agree with you that we would like to come into the 20th century technology – we have been investigating the installation of such systems and aware that each terminal has a monthly charge, along with every transactions requires a payment to the transaction company, however, we are wanting to move forward with them. Unfortunately the only system available to us at present would not be an automated link to a card unit and require the till operator to re-enter the card payments, which we think could increase queuing time. We will continue to progress with getting an automated system and hoping to have them at some point in the future’

kind regards

Janice
