"Doctors and nurses in A&E"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Accident & Emergency University Hospital Ayr / General Surgery

(as a parent/guardian),

my son was admitted to resus last year with a ruptured femoral artery, he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer prior to this happening.

we were told they didn't know if they could save him that night.

the staff were brilliant all our family were allowed to come in to see my son one at a time, staff kept us going with tea coffee etc and kept us informed of his condition.

we were then told he might lose his leg, but then was taken to theatre.

my son almost died that night he lost lots of blood but the staff kept going trying to save him for what seemed like many many hours.

we were always kept informed of how things were going, he came out of theatre and was in hospital for a few weeks.

we will be forever grateful to Mr Boom, Sergi and the rest of the team that were on duty that night. They gave us another four months with our son he passed away in the hospice last September.

The treatment he received that night in ayr hospital was commendable and we are so grateful.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear saver,

Anything I say will seem inadequate after all you and your family have been through but I am truly humbled to hear your story and be able to pass your thanks to the team and staff you have mentioned. I would like to add how sorry I am for your loss, it must seem so premature too.

I am sure that this will really touch everyone who reads your story, particularly those you have mentioned. I am sure the staff will appreciate this very much.

kindest regards,

Eunice

Thank you. I just get so fed up of the bad press the NHS gets. Everyone is so quick to complain but not enough people speak up to praise the NHS.

I just want the staff to know how grateful we are.
