About: Basildon University Hospital

What I liked

Cant think of anything apart from the staff who came round with the tea and coffee, what lovely people.

What could be improved

My elderly relative has been in hospital for over 9 weeks some of the staff are lovely but the majority have an attitude problem, you try to talk to them and they ignore you, or give you incorrect information, they spend most of their time in the staff room discussing what they did last night or where they are going on holiday.

Staff need to retrained especially when it comes to bedside manners. Elderly patients deserve to be treated with respect not shouted at or in some cases we saw on visits totally ignored. Management never availble to discuss concerns with. The elderly patients we saw were mostly unable to make themselves known as they had serious issues such as dementia or many were stroke patients, they deserve to be treated with more respect. Many elderely patients have no family to fight their corner and this should not be allowed. The hospital also need to review the Social Services Dept which has serious issues needing attention.

Anything else?

Cleanliness is a serious issue. Ward was dirty, sheets and floors stained with god knows what. Whilst visisting soiled items had been left on floor in ward and only after we complained about the smell were they removed . How is the hospital allowed to cut corners on cleanliness ????? who is checking up to see standards are kept !!!!!!
