Second visit to 'emergency' department in 24 hours. I was looking after a friend with suspected appendicitis. First wait was over 6 hours. Already here on the second visit (no action following first visit) for over 4 hours. No courtesy, no explanations, poor information, lacking care. One sign in a waiting area stated 'we will keep an eye on you' as part of the 'care' offered. No obs done, not even a glance from any nursing staff to check how my friend was. Instead we watched as, during a seemingly quiet period, nursing staff traded notes on the revalidation of nurses process, and admin staff regaled stories of patients who had annoyed or amused them that day. All in earshot of patient areas. Thanks for the 'care'. Perhaps the NHS should offer a redefinition of the word 'care' to the Oxford English Dictionary
