"CBT therapy really helped me face my fears"

About: Inclusion Matters Wirral

(as a service user),

I wish I had done the CBT years ago as it has made a huge difference to how I now deal with my anxiety. I had a bad flight with severe turbulence 15 years ago and since then I have been terrified during flights- crying, anxious and actually being physically sick. It affected not just me but my whole family. I had a telephone consultation first and they assessed me as having post-traumatic stress disorder- I was crying as I relived my fears.

I waited 14 months to get therapy and in the meantime did a Fearless Flying course which helped me understand physics of flying. The CBT therapy really helped me face my fears head on and deal with them rather than avoidance. I flew last wee and actually enjoyed the experience.
