"Traumatised 3 year old after blood test"

About: Kingston Hospital

I visited today with my 3 year old son, with possible special needs.

I have visited before with another of my children and I only ever had praise for childrens outpatients. Today has left us totallly traumatised with a hysterical 3 year old.

He is having various checks at the moment to try and pinpoint what issues he may have. Firstly I was told my sons records needed updating by my GP, my name was mispronounced not really an issue, but I could have ignored and missed the appointment when called in.

Then when it came to take my sons bloods, we had to restrain him, first attempt in his arm didn't work, then second attempt into his hand he was inconsolable, the member of staff told him to make a fist.

For a child who is having exploratory tests to see if he has special needs it was rather hard for him to comprehend. He was prodded and pricked and squeezed to get blood, I doubt very much in the future if he will co-operate. I am heart broken for him.
