"Terrible treatment of my son"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

Starting from the pick up by Ambulance crew who, I feel treated him as an addict and showed no compassion, understanding or care in his moments of tremendous pain.

At the Victoria Hospital the same happened, he was left for an hour and half & given 2 co-codamol, he could hardly get a breath and this didn't seem to matter to anyone because they assumed he'd taken something, he was on the floor in so much pain & very scared.

Blood was taken & as his kidney & liver appeared to be ok they discharged him after 4 hours. I picked him up and was very disappointed and angry that he was treated so badly, he deserved respect & understanding from those treating him.

We all put in a terrible night and I took him to his doctor the next day who was shocked when he saw the blood report it clearly showed high count of blood cells which means there's infection going on, he was also very surprised that my son wasn't checked for gallstones, considering where a lot of his pain was or even an xray taken.

I believe my son was treated like an addict and to give 2 co-codamol, was embarrassingly shocking. My son actually ended up on liquid morphine, diazepam, prednisolone, strong antibiotics, & Beckham, and the doctor has put in an urgent request for an endoscopy & an ultrasound.

I know the NHS is in crisis but to treat my son the way they did was wrong on every level and should be addressed. My son's blood clearly showed he hadn't used anything but that didn't make any difference to those who could have had his death on their conscience.

Dear Tuesdays Child

I was saddened to read of the experience of your son when he became unwell recently. It sounds like it was an extremely difficult time for him and for the rest of the family. I would like you to know that all of our staff are expected to follow the NHS Scotland core values of care and compassion, equality, dignity and respect. I am extremely sorry that this does not appear to have happened for your son.

I would really like to look into this in more detail so that I can try and find out what happened and at the very least, pass your feedback onto the staff involved. Please can I ask you to contact me on 0131 314 0003 or at martinesposito@nhs.net to allow me to do this.

In the mean time, I do hope that your son is now recovering well.

Thank you so much for sharing.

Take care

Martin.
