"Day case surgery"

About: Wrightington Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

I attended Wrightington Hospital outpatients following being referred due to symptoms of Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) The clinic was running on time and I was seen by my consultant and then straight through for pre op assesment quickly.

My surgery for Carpal tunnel release to my right hand was planned in six weeks time and I received a letter explaining about all aspects of my admission for day case surgery. I also received several reminder text messages. I arrived on the ward (D ward) at 7.30am as planned. I had seen the surgeon and been admitted to the ward by the nurse by 8am. The surgeon gave me time to ask any questions and fully explained the procedure. I was first on the list and was walked down to theatre by the theatre nurse at 9am. The consultant and their colleague were very friendly and again explained everything fully prior to the surgery and throughout. A nurse sat at the side of me throughout and was friendly and extremely reassuring. At one point, the consultant and their colleague, theatre staff and myself were actually laughing. Following the surgery, I returned to the ward where my blood pressure was checked, my discharge letter and sicknote was obtained and I was allowed to leave following receiving post operative advice. I was on my way home less than 3 hours from admission. All staff were friendly at all times. The ward was very clean with male and female patients in seperate areas. I am now 3 weeks post surgery and I no longer have the symptoms of CTS and my hand is recovering well. It is free from infection with a neat scar. Success!

I am due to see the consultant in a few weeks time to discuss the outcome of my surgery. I need the same surgery now to my left hand. I have absolutely no reservations regarding admission to Wrightington Hospital again. I feel very confident to be treated at this hospital again by the consultant and their team. The theatre staff truly were amazing! Thankyou.
