What could be improved

Reception services. I visited teh hospital on 9 August at 6.45pm to make an appointment for an ultra sound as requested by my GP.

The person on the Xray reception advised that a collegaue was absent on the day and I will need to come back teh next day. I enquired about teh need to get an appointment and she informed me that there is no need for one, i can just walk in tomorrow and get it done. She also recommended i come at around 6pm.

On 10 August 2010, i visited the Mile End hospital to get the ultra sound done. A diffrent recptionest at the Xray told me that ultra sound is only by appointments and i can not do it on the day. I asked to book an appointment and he responded that he does not have access to do so! After showing a bit of frustration (i have been leaving work early), the person took my GP request and adviced that a staff member will call me tomorrow to make an appointment.

On 11 August i have not heard anything from teh hospital until 2pm. I then decided to call teh Xray department and ask for my appointment. After some time expalining my sitaution, the receptionist informed me that appointments are sent by post and there is 3 weeks waiting period (very surprising given i was the only patient there on both visits). I asked for my appointment time while i was on the phone but the receptionist said they will only send it to me by post. This is such a waste of time.

The hospital needs to have an online booking service and more informed staff on receiption to say the least.

Anything else?

I will also be lodging a complaint using the NHS compliant procedure.
