I've suffered with anxiety and OCD most of my life. I've just plodded along with it and it's built up over the years. Things came to a head with work when it started affecting my job resulting in me changing my career. My Dr recommended Lets Talk, which I'd never even heard of. I was keen to have a go and see if anything new would help/ be a bonus. I have had counselling previously but it wasn't particularly helpful and made me feel hopeless. I've since realised this wasn't the right type of treatment for me. My Gp referred me in and I was assessed and referred for Stress Control, which was really good in helping me decide which path to go down. I was also made aware that I could self-refer which I would definitely do in the future if I needed to access the service again.
I was referred for CBT with Emma which I think has really helped, it's made me realise I'm not the only person that is like this and I've learnt the evidence for treating OCD, which proves to me that there's lots of people in the same situation. I've put into practice the Exposure response prevention therapy which I will continue with as has been really helpful. Therapy has helped me set goals for myself which I'm hoping to carry on achieving through what I've learnt in sessions.
Therapy has been a nice, relaxed atmosphere which has made me feel like an individual and that my issues are important. I have learnt that there is help out there, that they are people that are interested in me and can help me. Everyone should know that there is help out there for them. I wish I had known about this service sooner as I could have been putting this things into practice for many years.
