"HRT Implants"

About: NHS Ayrshire & Arran

(as a service user),

My treatment with HRT implants was discontinued three years ago due to the drug company discontinuing the supply and manufacture of the implants. During this time, I have struggled with HRT gels and the subsequent withdrawal of the instrinsa patch and was delighted to learn that women in other health board areas in Scotland were receiving the HRT implants. However, when I consulted my Dr today I was advised that NHS Ayrshire and Arran do not provide HRT implants despite the availability of an alternative supplier. I would like to know why NHS Ayrshire and Arran have taken this decision and why some women in Scotland can access this important treatment while others cannot. The current situation has left me with no alternative but to seek this important treatment in a private clinic.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear killian8,

It is disappointing when something works for us and then we can't get it any more for whatever reason.

I confess, I am not sure of the answer to your question but if you give me little time I will try to find out for you. I think this may have been a GP and pharmacy decision but I will look into it and feedback on this forum.

Kind regards,

Eunice

Thank you Eunice. This is a consultant issue - the implants are administered by the consultant at the outpatient gyn clinic.

Dear Eunice

It is more than a month since I posted my story and wondering if you were getting any nearer to obtaining a response? I have been going without treatment but it is now looking like I will have to access care privately.

Best wishes
