"It was easy to park."

About: Camborne Redruth Community Hospital

What I liked

It was easy to park.

What could be improved

The value of retaining a Minor Injuries Unit that refuses to even look at any injury that requires an X-Ray is lost on me. In addition, the member of staff at the MIU reception desk at around 7.20pm on Weds 11 August could not have been less helpful - she took great delight in informing me that my dislocated finger could not be treated due to the lack of an X-Ray facility and actually laughed while informing me that I could wait if I wished, but no treatment would be forthcoming.

Anything else?

The unit seems to be a complete waste of taxpayers money - as the vast majority of 'minor injuries' that do not require X-Rays can be trated with some TCP and a blue Mr Bump plaster. I would recommend the closure of this pointless facility.

Thank you for your comment. In accordance with Minor Injury Unit protocols suspected dislocated joints should be x-rayed prior to any attempted manipulation. Blind manipulation of such an injury could further traumatise the joint if it was also fractured. This could result in nerve or vessel damage, causing further problems for the patient.

The X Ray services is operational Mon-Fri from 0900-1300, and 1400-1700, so in this instance this episode of care had to be redirected to West Cornwall or Truro Hospital.

The staff member who dealt with the patient apologies if her manner of speaking was mis-interpreted as laughing, this was not the intention as it is not the acceptable manner of speaking to any patient.
