"Bit disappointed."

About: Peterborough City Hospital / Maternity

After developing hyperemesis gravidarum at week 5 of my first pregnancy I have been in an out of hospital due to severe dehydration. Up until week 13 I would be admitted to the women's ward who were brilliantly. Unfortunately after week 13 I had to start attending the maternity triage. On the first call I made due to not being able to keep fluids down or food for more than 24 hours I was told to go to the walk in centre. I attended the local walk in centre who told me I should not of been sent to them and to go straight to hospital. Arriving at A&E i was told to go to the delivery suite. When I arrived on the first occassion it was only me waiting this was around 12:00AM. I was not called through to triage until 3:00AM even after vomitting non stop in to a bucket . Then after being left a further 2 hours I was finally given fluids and anti sickness injections which immensely helped. A few weeks later the same problem occurred I attended women's maternity inpatients (delivery suite) it was apparent it was very busy I knew I would have to wait we had arrived at 12:00PM but was not seen until 6:15PM again I was left on a bed for another 3 hours until fluids and anti sickness medication was given. By this point my lips had started bleeding due to the dryness and I felt faint also my heart rate was increasing and blood pressure dropped very low. I understand it's not the midwifes fault as they are under pressure and are very busy trying to give every individual the best care they can but i felt very forgotten about and felt my issue wasn't classed as important as everyone else's.

Apart from that the staff are very lovely and reassuring. Also checked my baby over who was okay. My only concern is when I am due in decmember and go in to labour I am afraid I will be left in a waiting room hours on end due to past experience

I am so sorry to hear about your experience and I am obviously concerned about the comments you have posted. We want to ensure all of our patients receive good quality care and I am disappointed that this is not what has happened in your case.

If you would like to discuss this in more detail please do contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01733 673405. Once again my apologies that not all of your encounters have been positive.

Regards
