"If if pain do this course"

About: Derriford Hospital / Pain Management

I suffer from pain and depression and I think that the pain had an effect which worsened my depression and in the vicious cycle of the two have continued. The pain clinic actually made me realise what and where the pain was originating from and that had a positive impact on my mental health. I felt inspired afterwards, although the problems are still there , I felt more positive about my future.

It's a brilliant course to do, knowing what your body and brain are doing to protect you from outside influences, can give you an insight of how to understand where and why you have certain pain. It will not give you a magic solution but it can give you some "mental/physical tools" which may help with the way that you can live your life.

If you do suffer from pain, you need to try this option . There is no pressure to give up anything, start anything or believe it could work. You can only try it and give it a go.

The Nurse Consultant in the Chronic Pain team has responded by saying:

Many thanks for your comments in regards to your experience as a patient undergoing one of our Pain Management courses. As staff it is really lovely to hear that we make a positive difference to patients’ quality of life. What we ask of patients is to be open to new ideas and this approach appears to have really resonated with you.

With your permission I would like to share your comments in an anonymised form in the Pain Management clinic waiting area. Please could you let our PALS team know if you are happy with that?

Best wishes for the future
