I gave birth to my daughter at the RVI Birthing Centre on 18th Aug 2017.
I can’t speak highly enough of the care I received there; both in the midwife led birthing centre and the higher risk maternity doctor led unit.
I arrived at the RVI after 30hrs of labour at home with phone support to the RVI midwife.
On arrival I was seen immediately and assessed then moved to a great spacious room with a birthing pool.
My labour went on for another 17 hours in that room with constant support from expert staff.
Protocols were followed and my baby was never in distress.
After so long without giving birth, it became clear that I needed assistance to birth her and was transferred upstairs to be seen by a doctor - everything well explained.
After being quickly assessed and moved to theatre, my daughter was born by forceps 1hr and 20 mins later.
Absolutely tremendous theatre team who spoke to me constantly and explained every step.
My midwife also stayed with me for support and got to meet the little girl we’d worked so hard for.
I have such love and respect for our NHS.
