"Tinnitus relief after 9 months"

About: Borders General Hospital / Audiology

(as a service user),

I was referred to the Audiology Dept at BGT in January 2017 suffering with Tinnitus knowing that there was no cure for this frustrating and debilitating problem. The prospect of life with constant ringing in my left ear was depressing and the cause of major anxiety, sleeplessness and fatigue. After an initial hearing assessment, treatment has been with Lead Audiologist, Dawn. This continuity of care has been both reassuring and important in exploring the options in systematically managing the condition. I found that sound enrichment therapy on its' own was ineffective. Dawn, using all of her skill and experience, suggested a dual hearing aid with built-in sound generator which now provides welcome temporary Tinnitus relief - for the first time in 9 months! Many thanks.

One thing that could be improved is the ENT departments communication.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I am so pleased that I was able to offer an effective solution to your tinnitus. The tinnitus clinic is a relatively new service within BGH audiology and I am hopeful that other patients will derive a similar expereince to yourself from attending.
