"Serious eye injury"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Ophthalmology University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I have recently experienced how FANTASTIC a service our NHS provides.

When a freak accident involving metal breaking off my hiking boot, when I was tightening my laces, and going straight into my eye causing my eye to burst happened I received care from NHS Lanarkshire which I can not fault.

I was operated on by Dr Wong and Dr Reekie at Hairmyres Hospital within 4 hours of the injury happening. They unbelievably put 18 stitches on the eye ball, saving the eye ball and the vision in it.

The follow up care on Ward 8 combined with all of the doctors on Dr Wong's ophthalmology clinic could not have been better. At 24 losing an eye would have certainly been restrictive for the rest of my life. But the work of the hospital staff has meant that my vision is only slightly impaired, a good result from a bad injury. Great people working very hard to provide a great service.

Thank you all very much!

Dear Andrew,

Thanks very much for taking the time to feedback your positive experience. I’ll be sure to pass on these comments to Dr Wong, Dr Reekie and the staff on Ward 8 as I know they will be delighted to learn that their work meant so much to you.

I hope you continue to recover well from your operation.

Kind Regards,

Cameron
