I have recently come home after 4 weeks in hospital having had one of my legs amputated as an emergency admission.
I spent about a week in the ITU, a short time in HDU and then around 3 weeks in Kent Ward.
Everyone involved in my care, from my emergency admission and the several operations I had, followed by intense and then day to day nursing care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, dietary requirements and the ward support staff doing the routine cleaning and delivering food and drink has been fantastic.
I was able to discuss my condition and treatent with the doctors and consultants using terms that I could understand and all my treatments were fully explained to me before they started.
Day to day concerns about my condition / treatment that I raised with the nursing staff were promptly dealt with and where appropriate were passed on to be dealt with by doctors or consultants.
The occupaional therapy team visitied my home to assess its suitability for me coming home in a wheel chair and equipment such as a downstairs bed and access ramps were organised and delivered as arranged by them.
Overall I do not think that my treatment could have been any better or any more successful. The surgical team saved my life through the emergency amputation. This was followed by excellent and sympathetic after care that brought me back to a point where I was well enough to be discharged and I wish to thank all those involved in my care for their professionalism and understanding whilst they were looking after me.
