"Waiting on the waiting list for the waiting..."

About: Solihull Hospital / Ophthalmology

I seem to be ending up on a never ending string of waiting lists for cataract surgery with no light at the end of the tunnel.

Still being below retirement age I am struggling with my job and may soon have to stop working altogether because it's getting more difficult by the day and no one seems at all concerned, it's all about making you wait.

I've had over a year of waiting now, with referrals I am not told about, appointments that should have been made that weren't, and many other issues. I'm not even on the 'official' waiting list yet so I don't even get to be a statistic.

And in trying to resolve this and get things moving I am repeatedly told by staff that 'they're not the person I should speak to' but yet not a one of them can tell me who I should speak to.

What do you do when you are at the mercy of a broken system and people who are indifferent?

Dear Anonymous

Thank you for your post regarding your care under the Ophthalmology Team at Solihull Hospital.

I am disappointed to read your post and the details of the difficulties and delays you are experiencing. I would very much like to look into this in more detail on your behalf, but would need some information from you to enable me to do this.

Can I please ask you to contact me at your convenience on 0121 424 0808 (9am - 3.30pm Monday to Friday with a voicemail service in operation at all other times) or you can email us at: bhs-tr.Complaints-ConcernsandCompliments@nhs.net please note that the email address is case sensitive.

I hope this is acceptable and I look forward to hearing from you. Please be assured that we take seriously any issues our patients or their families raise with us and we value your feedback, it is important to us.

Once again thank you for taking the time to post your feedback.

Kind regards

Marie Helebert
