"2 marvellous paramedics"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a relative),

My son is very ill after having 15 hours of open heart surgery that went wrong and taking strokes and brain seizures, he collapsed on the kitchen floor, and we had to dial 999. The 2 paramedics who attended where called Darleen and Alex. They were amazing with not only my son but myself and my elderly mum. It's the first time 2 paramedics have made us laugh. They truly were fantastic and we can't thank these 2 people enough. They are both worth there weight in gold. Alex keep playing your guitar and Darleen make sure he stays out of trouble. Bless you both. from our family xx

Hi Westlife

Thank you so much for sharing your experience on Care Opinion.

It sounds like your whole family has been going through an extremely difficult time recently and it must have been very distressing witnessing your already unwell son collapsing. I was therefore really pleased to read your kind words about Alex and Darleen and the care they provided.

We pride ourselves on our high clinical standards but as your story highlights, there is far more to providing a high standard of healthcare than clinical skills alone. The communication skills and person-centred approach adopted by Alex and Darleen are so important. From experience, I also know that it is sometimes easy to forget how worried and anxious relatives can be when their loved one is ill, especially in an emergency situation. So, it was great to read that Alex and Darleen were able to reassure you all whilst caring for your son.

I would love to pass your compliment onto Alex and Darleen but would need some more details about the call to identify the correct case. If you are able to provide some more detail you can contact me on 0131 314 0003 or at martinesposito@nhs.net

In the mean time, I do hope that your son is on the mend and thank you again so much for sharing.

Take care

Martin.
