"Feels like there is no help"

About: Three Towns Resource Centre / General Psychiatry

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was given an appointment at three towns resource centre only after my husband had to phone and practically beg for the appointment. My son was feeling suicidal and depressed and that week had tried to commit suicide.

When we got there he was seen by an addiction worker and a CPN, we were told to wait in reception area until we were called in. After about 45 minutes we were called in and told that my son didn't require the services of a CPN as he didn't have mental health issues! Because he had previously taken pills they said he was to see an addiction worker instead.

It truly beggars belief, there's my son sitting there clearly distressed, bandage round his wrist were he had cut and admitted he took tablets and the CPN and addiction worker are still saying he does not have mental health issues. I truly despair of all the people who have the misfortune to be sent to three towns resource centre for help with their mental health as there is no help!

What you can get there is leaflet after leaflet about all the help that is available (the place has them in abundance ) but practical help you will not get, take it from a mother who is at her wits end and anxiously awaiting her son's next move whatever that may be.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Maz McCabe,

Oh I am so sorry. I can only imagine how worrying this is for you and your family.

I feel there are two parts to your post.

Firstly, what can you do if you need help in a crisis? I am not sure how helpful the following information will be, you may already know this but -

between 9.00 am and 7.00 pm Monday to Friday, you can speak to the Mental Health Team duty service on 01294 470010. Out side of these hours, it is NHS 24 you call on - 111.

You can also get help and advice from the Samaritans on 08457 90 90 90 and Breathing Space on 0800 838 587.

The second aspect is whether you want to complain about your son's care, this can be done by calling 0800-197 1441 inside working hours or would like to be put in touch with someone to discuss this post and your son's care. if you would like to do this, please email me on eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk. I will be back in the office on Monday.

I am sorry, this feels inadequate as a response to your obvious concern and distress. I do hope everything gets better.

Kindest regards,

Eunice
