I was on the Gynecology ward. I would not know where to start with how awful the "care" I received here was. The lack of care from staff towards me was like nothing I have ever experienced, even when staff were not actually busy.
I watched staff openly speak about and berate patients, which I would expect to be dismissed for and I do not work in this field. Including talking openly about patients personal information, so much for privacy and data protection. In my opinion, the lack of sensitivity towards patients and their families, even with the emotional nature of this ward and how sensitive some of the issues that patients were experiencing were.
You can expectt a higher level of sensitivity and manners from a cashier. I was very pleased with my consultants and the majority of the doctors here, but as I did not see them often, this does not change my experience.
The staff were extremely rude to patients and their families, even to each other. I watched multiple patients left unattended for hours, not given medication, not even acknowledged, and break down in tears. in my exerperience the attitude of the staff I saw was disgusting.
I understand staff can be tired or over worked, but this is not the fault of the patients. The only part of my experience that stopped me from having a complete breakdown while being here, was that all patients I had met were in the same boat, and I did not meet one that had a good word to say. There were a small handful of good nurses, but again I did not see them often enough to change this experience.
It was not only the lack of care that I found appalling, but also the medical treatment. Due to this I ended up suffering from what I felt to be pretty serious negligence. It also became evident that staff had not read my records and did not care to. I would advise everyone that stays here to follow up with a GP. Sadly, I used to speak very highly of the Women's Hospital and recommended it to many people. Now, I honestly hope I never have to set foot in the place again.
"The worst hospital experience."
