About: Fairfield General Hospital / Accident and emergency

My 89 year old Grandma was taken to Fairfield A&E via ambulance this morning with a suspected Stroke & Urine infection. My Dad who is 67 accompanied her to the hospital too.

Following some investigations my Gran was put on a proper mattress & bed to make her more comfortable. My Dad was told by the staff that they were keeping her in overnight & she would be moved upstairs to ward 7. My Gran was asleep so my Dad asked the A& E staff if it was worth him staying. They said that they didn't need him for anything so he could go home. My Dad lives in Oldham therefore had to get a bus to Bury town centre then a tram to Oldham. Whilst my Dad was travelling home , Fairfield A&E rang my Mum to say that they were now sending my Gran home? That an ambulance would be taking her within the hour, this was approximately 4pm. My Gran lives alone with carer support but these had been cancelled for this evening due to them saying she'd be in overnight. We finally got hold of my Dad who went to my Grans house to wait for her so that he could assist her to bed. At. 21.45pm, my Gran had still not arrived home & my Dad had been waiting at my Grans since 4.30pm. My Dad got back in touch with Fairfield A&E at 9.30pm & they said that an ambulance was now on its way to collect my Gran & take her home. Is it right to transfer an 89 year old frail lady home at 10pm at night? Or have people wait & be told conflicting information. If there was a bed shortage that's fair enough but to mess people about like that is out of order.
